Commentary & Film Screening of “Buena Vista Social Club”

Grab some popcorn, sit back, and ENJOY this award-winning documentary by Wim Wenders about the music of Cuba. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for best documentary feature in 2000. It won the best documentary award of the European Film Awards as well as many others. In 2020, both the film and the 1997 album were selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry and the National Recording Registry, respectively, by the Library of Congress as “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”

The album Buena Vista Social Club features studio versions of the music heard in the film. The album was awarded the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album and Tropical/Salsa Album of the Year by a Group at the 1998 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
