Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes without intermission

You may know that Ludwig van Beethoven wrote several works when he was almost completely deaf, but you may not know that many other famous composers also suffered from hearing loss. From William Boyce to Gabriel Fauré to Bedřich Smetana, some of these composers’ most popular compositions were written without the benefit of sound perception.

Join Cincinnati-based pianist Awadagin Pratt and our very own Principal Trumpet Ashley Hall as we explore the topic of how the deaf and hearing- impaired experience music through the works of composers who dealt with hearing loss. Pratt and Hall will be joined by members of our string section in one of the most beautiful acoustic settings in the Tristate.
