Young Musician Day 2027

Welcome to the Inaugural Young Musician Day for children ages 3-18!
Register for participation by Monday, February 8, 2027 at 5pm. There is no cost to register.

Schedule of Events
1-1:30pm Incorporating Mindfulness into the Practice Room (Auditorium)
Bryce Kessler from The Well/Mindful Music Moments discusses how to incorporate mindfulness into practice sessions. Bryce has nearly a decade of experience leading mindfulness sessions with students of all ages and is an accomplished cellist.

1:30-2pm Preparing for Your Next Audition (Auditorium)
CCO violinist Rose Brown provides tip and tricks for preparing for auditions.

2:10-4pm Small Ensemble Performances: 10-minute slots, 11 available (Auditorium)
Preexisting ensembles are invited to perform on stage at Memorial Hall for their peers and a panel of adjudicators from the CCO.

2:10-4pm Mock Auditions: 10-minute slots, 11 available (Ballroom)
Students are invited to prepare a mock audition for Rose Brown. Excerpts will be provided in advance.

4-4:45pm Conducting Workshop (Auditorium)
CCO Music Director Eckart Preu leads a session on orchestral conducting. This class will help students view ensemble playing from a new perspective, enabling them to be better performers in their home ensembles.

4-4:45pm Introduction to Orchestra/Instrument Petting Zoo (Ballroom, Special Session for Children Ages 3-8 and their Parents)
Rachel Kramer, CEO of AlivenArts and President of Music Learning Center, Inc./Baldwin Music Education Center leads an introduction to the orchestra. Through interactive, hands-on, and highly participatory activities, children will discover the instruments of the orchestra, learn how they create their unique sounds, and experience music as active participants rather than passive listeners. Expect singing, movement, listening, exploration, and plenty of opportunities to engage with the sights, sounds, and excitement of the orchestra in an educational, age-appropriate, and fun way.

4:45-5:45pm Dinner Served to Participants (Ballroom)

6-8:30pm Final Concert with JB Concerto Competition Winners, Immanuel School of Music Youth Sinfonia, and CCO Musicians (Auditorium)

Are Parents/Legal Guardians Allowed to Attend?

Yes, parents/legal guardians may attend with their children or wait in a designated area. At 5pm, the auditorium will be cleared in preparation for the final concert, and all parents must present a ticket for entry. Tickets are $25 for adults.

Are Siblings Allowed to Attend?

Yes, non-performing siblings are allowed to attend. Children may also attend the final concert for free.
